Discover the art and science of growing your own gourmet mushrooms in this hands-on, beginner‑friendly workshop! Participants will learn the full process of cultivating culinary mushrooms—from understanding basic fungal biology and growth needs to choosing suitable substrates for home production.

You’ll observe a step‑by‑step demonstration of how to inoculate buckets with mushroom spawn, explore best practices for colonization and fruiting, and discuss which species thrive in our region.

To cap off the experience, each participant will prepare and take home their own inoculated shiitake mushroom log, ready to fruit in the coming months. Whether you’re a farmer, homesteader, gardener, foodie, or curious forager, this workshop offers an engaging introduction to growing fresh mushrooms right at home.

Cost of the workshop is $25 per person. Pre-registration is required as space is limited - no walk ins will be accepted. Register by calling 740-461-6136 or email lyon.194@osu.edu. Registration deadline is Friday, March 13th or until the class is full.
